Antique wooden dairy farm medicine box
Antique Farm Medicine Box
An antique wooden dairy farm medicine box with original labels to the front and inside of the lid. The box would have contained veterinary medicines to be administered by the farmer or farm worker thus avoiding veterinary costs.
A simple but charming wooden box having the benefit of the original labels, thereby having both decorative and social history appeal. It has a simple hook and eye to secure the lid.
Day started in business in the early part of the 19th century producing medicines for the farming and equine community. After a period in partnership in London, Day and sons' was established in Crewe in 1881. Reference to being established for 40 years suggests the box is about 100 years old (assuming the reference is to the Crewe business only and 50 years would have taken precedence had that milestone been reached).
The box has clear evidence of its age and use including holes, scratches, splits and scuffs. All should be evident from the images. We are happy to provide further details and images on request.
