A 4 gallon copper measure with rare elongated neck.
Antique Four Gallon Copper Measure
A 4 gallon copper measure. Similar to large 'haystack' copper jugs but with an unusual elongated neck which is quite rare. The copper plate to the front of the measure reads "No 2 J Ellison & Co Liverpool". The neck is stamped clearly, "4 Gallon" along with multiple Weights & Measures stamps.
The measure has received had a number of repairs over the years (lead?) and suffered a few dents and dings. All quite common for a copper vessel of this age (est. early 20th century).
I have cleaned an polished lightly to avoid removing any of the patina which typifies old copper.
As would be expected for a 4 gallon measure, it is heavy and robust. The approximate height is 18" (46cm).
A big and impressive decorative piece with history and connections to Liverpool.
