Antique oak barrel or cask head for W H Brakspear of Henley
Antique Oak Barrel Head
Antique oak barrel head for W H Brakspear of Henley.
My research suggests the brass 'keystone' insert and deep 'hot iron' branding, dates the barrel head to between 1895-1915.
Casks were hand made by skilled coopers on the site of the Henley brewery. This piece is made from three pieces of oak joined together and branded with W.H.B. HENLEY. (William Henry Brakspear). I have been unable to find any reference to the number 262.
In nice condition for its age. There are marks to the back which suggests it has perhaps at some point been used as a decorative piece.
Approximate dimensions:
Diameter: 25cm Depth 2.7cm
Weighs in at just under 1kg
