Antique Dutch Puritan pewter spoons and rack.
Antique Pewter Puritan Spoons C18th
A rare and interesting group of twelve early 18th Century Dutch Puritan spoons.
Stamped with the Dutch 'Crowned Rose', the shape of the bowl and handles dates them to the early years of the 18th Century. The age of the rack is unknown but is clearly old. There is much paint loss and some old woodworm holes.
It was common practice for individuals to place 'ownership marks' on their pewter flatware (plates, cutlery etc). Most of the spoons have been stamped with initials, which I take to be that of the owner in each instance.
Dimensions: Rack (Max) 39 cm x 22 cm
The spoons vary slightly in length but average around 85 mm (variations between 75mm and 95mm).
