Antique carved writing box with bronze bas relief with Scottish interest
Antique Writing Box
Antique carved oak and bronze writing box. Probably late Victorian or Edwardian in date.
The lid of the box has a carved wood surround with an inset bronze bas relief depicting a Capercaillie (and potential mate?) in a pine wood setting. The casting is very detailed and sharp indicating a quality piece.
The inside of the lid has a horizontal crack running centrally across the lid. Opposite is a writing desk pad/blotter.
The hinges appear to have been replaced at some point in the past.
