Bank Night Safe Bag

Barclays Bank night safe leather bag with key.

In nice condition but with evidence of age and use. Made from quality leather. There is a leather covered metal framework making the opening. The Chubb lock has a brass escutcheon and aluminium alloy mechanism within.

Comes with the original key. The lock snaps shut and requires less than a quarter turn clockwise on the key and a pull to open again.

These bags were designed for traders to deposit their cash and cheque takings via the branch night safe. Whilst most traders would be open until 5pm or later, banks closed their branches at 3pm to 'cash up'. Businesses would therefore need to deposit their day's takings via the 'night' safe. The unique number allows for the bank to identify the depositor.

The owner of this bag has duplicated the number in (gloss paint?) on the base of the bag. I guess this could be removed by careful application of a paint stripper. For me, it is part of its history and charm.
