Clockwork Toy Crane 1950/60s
A clockwork tinplate toy crane made in France by Joustra in the 1950/1960s with three manually adjusted jib heights.
In working order with a key (not original) and tested. The tower can be turned 360 degrees using the manual winder. Having used the key to wind the mechanism, there are two levers which control the lowering and raising of the hook by clockwork action. One lever determines to direction and the other is to stop or go.
In good condition but with some evidence of age and use over time including paint loss, the cable (string) is probably an old replacement and slight buckling to one corner of the base.
Approximate dimensions are:
Height of tower roof from ground 33cm
Three jib heights from ground 49.5cm, 61cm and 67cm
Base (max) 19cm x 16cm.
Max width (at jib 49.5cm height) 50cm.
