Enamel Sign - Royal Blue

An old enamel sign advertising "Royal Blue Automobile Services". The company operated between 1913 and 1934 as part of Elliott Bros. Based in Bournemouth, from 1928 it operated daily express 'motor coach' services to London in competition with the railways. This sign appears to be from that 6 year period, 1928 to 1934.

 

There are obvious signs of damage and weathering commensurate with age. The loss of enamel is clear from the images. The blue background is covered with fine surface abrasions which are only visible by close inspection (such as those perhaps caused by use of a fine abrasive polish or cleaner).
