  • History: - the 'Abbey Road' came into existance in 1874 as, The Abbey Road and St John's Wood Mutual Benefit Building Society. It operated out of the school room of Abbey Road Church in North West London. Having grown to a sizeable presence in the market, it merged with the National Building Society in 1944 to become Abbey National Building Society and latterly, the Bank of Santander.

The business moved to Abbey House in 1934,  so the sign can be dated to between 1934 and 1944. It is made from enamel on heavy gauge sheet metal and shows obvious signs of its age and weathering. Please see the images provided. A more detailed condition report and further images can be provided on request.

The "Abbey Road" is that of Beatles fame and may therefore appeal to fans. Otherwise, this large sign, with its use of primary colours, has a striking visual impact and would be a 'presence' in any setting.

    Size:  40 inches x 30 inches (approx. 101.5 cm x 76 cm)
