  • Fourteen pre-decimal celluloid shop price tickets in excellent condition for their age (please see images).

Made from celluloid (early plastic) with a metal spike. Such price tickets were common during the early and mid 20th century in shops displaying food items such as meat, cheese, bread etc. Probably still in use up until the early 1970s only to be made redundant by the introduction of decimalisation. Undoubtedly considered too dangerous and a health hazard in the modern retail world, they would have likely met their demise anyway. Now an object to stir memories of a bygone era.

For younger viewers, 1/- (one shilling or a 'bob') is a 5 pence coin today. When I went to school in the 1960s, 5/- (25p) would pay for school dinners for a week!

    Each ticket measures approx. 2  1/4" x 1  5/8" (57 mm x 41 mm).  Including the spike 2  7/8" (74 mm)

Further images can be provided on request.
