Two Small Antique Tea Chests
Two small wooden antique tea chests advertising John Barker & Co Ltd of Kensington of Kensington London - Tea Importers and Blenders.
John Barker & Co was established in 1870 and incorporated in 1894. The boxes on offer are estimated to to be from the early 20th century. The Company was acquired by Ponting Brothers and ultimately became part of House of Fraser in 1957.
The foil lining which was standard for such containers is nearly complete in each chest. The sliding lids suggest they were for daily use in a retail environment or tea room.
The external surfaces of each box carry Company advertising and/or product details. In good condition but with obvious evidence of age and use to plywood and metal fixings, as per images.
