Vintage Advertising Wooden Crate

A vintage 1950/60s wooden advertising crate.

My research indicates that the business known as 'Direct Potato Supply', Thornton Heath, started following WW2. It involved doorstep deliveries of potatoes in half cwt sacks using army surplus lorries.

Internal inspection suggests the crate was formerly laid out for bottles or such like.  The 2/- charge marking is consistent with returnable bottle and crate charges of the period. The connection with the potato business is unknown and may have simply been advertising.

The crate is well constructed, as with other similar crates of the period. It is in good robust condition.
