  • A vintage perpetual calendar advertising 'Smiths Building System'.

Very well made from metal and probably Lucite. As far as I am aware, not related to the company of a similar name still trading. It appears from what limited information is available from National Archives, the 'Smiths Building System' was a function of British Steel Construction Ltd who built properties post WW2 between 1945 and 1952. The superstructure on the calendar which is obviously a wall, is painted cast metal and presumably represents the 'system' by which the properties were built.

Possibly a unique item or, if not, one of very few remaining from a short-lived company.

The item has had a good clean and a new felt layer added to the base. It operates by using the side knobs to rotate the day, date and month barrels.

Quite a heavy object for its size which is approx: 21 cm x 11 cm x 9 cm.
