Vintage Tiger Tim's bagatelle game
Vintage Tiger Tim's Bagatelle
A vintage Tiger Tim's bagatelle game. Made by Chad Valley. In full working order.
My research suggests date of manufacture between 1920 and 1940. Tiger Tim's weekly ran from 1919 to 1940. The sticker to the base shows the price of it's sister comic The Rainbow at 2d, which was in force between 1920 and early 1950s. Tiger Tim and the Bruin boys was merged back into the Rainbow in 1940.
In good working order. The characters start the game face down. Each ball in put into play by using the spring mechanism on the bottom left. The skill is in adjusting the pull on the spring. The entry of a ball into the adjacent hole makes the character stand up. Balls are returned via a swivelling gate at the front.
Although in nice order, there is some evidence of age and use. I also wonder whether the back of the characters grey and green indicates some replacement during its life span. There appears to be a replacement mechanism to Willie Ostrich as shown in the final image.
Usable and decorative as well as a nice piece of comic nostalgia and history. Five ball bearings will be supplied. One assumed original and four replacements.
