Vintage Wooden Farm Sign

A superb painted wooden signwritten farm advertising sign, probably from the early 20th century. It is double sided. The absence of a telephone number suggests an early date.  Apply - Miss Rebbeck.

Construction is a wooden frame and three horizontal wooden boards. The frame is strengthened by the addition of metal brackets to the corners. The top bracket appears to be 'blacksmith' made and runs 6 inches each side and across the top. It incorporates the two hanging eyes. The bottom brackets appear 'homemade'. The sign is solid, robust and in good condition. There is some crazing to the base paint along with other marks and scuffs etc which are expected and suggestive of age.

The signwriting appears to have been done by a capable amateur as it lacks the consistency of a professional.

The middle board bows slightly and a small gap between middle and bottom board is apparent (3 mm).
